    CentralAuth Inquiry

    [edit]

Hey there! I'm inquiring about CentralAuth. Recently, I searched up my account on it, and it had the 'new account' tag next to my name. Is there a specific timeframe (e.g. one year), and after that it expires, or is it just going to be there forever? Henry (talk) 02:16, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Henry Herrmann-Friedrich I think your account on en Wikipedia is marked "new account" because it was set up as a new account, while your accounts on other Wikimedia projects are marked "created on login" because they were set up automatically through Wikipedia:Unified login, so your account on en Wikipedia will always be marked "new account". Hopefully that is written down somewhere. TSventon (talk) 03:31, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's right. CentralAuth is the unified login system for Wikimedia wikis. It's from 2008. Special:CentralAuth/Henry Herrmann-Friedrich has a green plus icon at en.wikipedia.org saying "new account" on hover. MediaWiki:Centralauth-merge-method-new-desc says "Indicates that the global account was created automatically when that local account was created." The text "new account" is probably permanent but an administrator like me could change it at MediaWiki:Centralauth-merge-method-new. My alternative account Special:CentralAuth/PrimeHunter2 has said "New account" at en.wikipedia.org since it was created in 2008. My main account Special:CentralAuth/PrimeHunter has a nice house icon instead at en.wikipedia.org and says "home wiki". The account was originally created in 2005 so it predates CentralAuth. Each Wikimedia wiki had separate accounts at the time. In 2009 my enwiki account was merged into the CentralAuth system and designated "home wiki" (MediaWiki:Centralauth-merge-method-primary). There are other possible values from the CentralAuth merge process at [1]. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:55, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I really appreciate the insight! Henry (talk) 04:25, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    IP user comment

    [edit]

    See: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Dronebogus/Basement&oldid=1217044646 -- Ooligan (talk) 04:59, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you drawing our attention to random months-old posts on a random user page, Ooligan? --ColinFine (talk) 09:18, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looked like possible vandalism. The linked post is old, however the IP address has recently edited 14 days ago and I don't see a block. I read the request a block page, but I wasn't sure if this qualified for a block request, so I brought it here. I have never requested a block on wikipedia. My other option would have been to not mention it at all. -- Ooligan (talk) 14:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ooligan: You didn't "bring it here" in your original post. You simply pasted a link to an historical version of a user's talk page and expected readers like ColinFine and me to work out what it is and why you are drawing attention to it, all under a cryptic heading. If you'd added your most recent commentary (and used a more meaningful heading), then everyone would be wiser from the start. Bazza 7 (talk) 16:32, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bazza 7 and @ColinFine- The link I provided to the talk page had only two (2) entries and only one of the two entries was an IP with the negative comment. I thought it was enough information at that time. I will give more information in the future in a similar circumstance. Respectfully, -- Ooligan (talk) 16:35, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I've removed the offending comment. Usually IPs aren't blocked for long as IPs can be shared or recycled to new costumers, and in fact a costumer's IP often changes (not for all internet providers, but it's common), so unless the IP is a proxy, or there's persistent or egregious disruption (*or the IP or person using the IP has been blocked before) the IP will usually only be blocked for 31 hours, or 60, or a week; lengths like that.
    Basically there's not much point in doing more now. – 2804:F1...F5:930E (talk) 22:48, 24 September 2024 (UTC) *edited: 23:34, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explaination and your prompt action. Best regards, -- Ooligan (talk) 16:37, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Changing label output name of a parameter in Speciesbox

    [edit]

In the Speciesbox of the Sinhala wikipedia, Its needed to change the parameter "clade's" output name to "ක්ලේඩය"; the native word for it. I cant seem to find the place to edit it. (i have changed other label names for genus and species but can't find the place to edit clade) VihirLak007 (talk) 08:56, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find it, VihirLak007 - my guess is that it's buried somewhere way down in a module. (It's not in Module:Taxobox). Often if you can't find the source of something in a template, it's in Wikidata somewhere, but that seems unlikely in this case. I suggest asking at Template talk:Speciesbox. ColinFine (talk) 09:31, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@VihirLak007: The linked page Speciesbox currently displays several "ක්ලේඩය" and no "clade". Is the issue resolved? If not then please link a page which displays an unwanted "clade". PrimeHunter (talk) 11:40, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Information Relevant to Article?

    [edit]

I was working on Bedok MRT station and I came across this source that stated that a Mcdonald's outlet near the station increased its crew team in anticipation of the station's opening. I'm not sure if it's particularly relevant to the history of the station (although it is part of an article that details businesses anticipating more profit from the branch's opening day) but I do find it interesting. Imbluey2. Please ping me so that I get notified of your response 13:37, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Imbluey2: This bit of information seems like something (at least to me) that would fall under WP:NOTEVERYTHING as not being all that encyclopedically relevant to the readers of Bedok MRT station. Perhaps there were other stores near the station that increased staff or made other changes in anticipation of the new customers they expected to receive when the station opened. A general statement on how the opening of the station impacted the surrounding area economically might be relevant information to include in the article if reliable WP:SECONDARY sources can be found in support, but simply mentioning a single McDonalds seems a bit WP:UNDUE (again in my opinion). -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:21, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly After digging further into the article, I did find out there was another business who anticipated for a lot of customers. However, I don't think there are other sources reporting this matter, so it's therefore irrelevant Imbluey2. donations

    [edit]

I would eagerly support Wikipedia financially IF they would cease their obvious Left-wing bias. History and Politics are ugly for all sides, and protecting one side only ruins the reputation PERMANENTLY. It would be nothing if everyone donated even $2 per month, yet, with the clear bias, Wikipedia is no longer a reliable reference source. 142.165.164.181 (talk) 23:02, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First off, Wikipedia goes out of its way to state it is not a reliable source. It merely reports what reliable sources say. Second, Conservapedia is thataway →. Clarityfiend (talk) 23:30, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On a different note: Wikipedia editors and Wikipedia admins do not receive any part of the donations, the donations go to the Wikimedia Foundation. Personally I think that's a good thing, means it's harder for people to pay for their narratives because editors are all individuals and doing this as volunteers. It does mean that there needs to be WP:CONSENSUS for things that a lot of people care about, between the people who care, on what articles actually contain though - and the interested people vary by article and topic. – 2804:F1...F5:930E (talk) 23:46, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Need to change Page Title to a Proper Noun

    [edit]

We need to change "Jamaica association for the deaf" to Jamaica Association for the Deaf" because it is a proper noun and the name of an organization. I have not been able to find how to do this. Thank you in advance for your assistance. More02109 (talk) 23:28, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The current title of the page is "Jamaica association of the deaf" which is incorrect. More02109 (talk) 23:33, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) I moved "Jamaica association of the deaf" to "Jamaica Association of the Deaf", then to "Jamaica Association for the Deaf". See WP:PAGEMOVE (maybe you don't have enough edits to do that?). Clarityfiend (talk) 23:34, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I uploaded a picture on wikipedia (the 2024 Cook Out Southern 500 top picture) and I was wondering if the copyright status of the picture will be deleted if the track removes the picture on their website. will I still get in trouble? 45BearsFan (talk) 23:53, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 45BearsFan. I see no problems with the licensing of the logo and do not think that future removal of the logo will have any effect. It looks to me like you are acting in good faith and I see no reason that you would get in trouble. The logo is copyrighted and will remain so even if removed from other websites. Conclusory

    [edit]

Wikipedia seems to allow conclusory statements. Like someone is a “conspiracy theorist”.

Instead of labeling someone, simply prevent the facts and allow people to make their own determination.

    With regard to any labels. 2600:8801:F000:5C0:0:0:0:3148 (talk) 00:23, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia reflects what is said in reliable sources about a subject. If the consensus among reliable sources is that someone is a conspiracy theorist, then that's what gets written; to purposefully exclude such a label even though it is widely used in reliable sources would be editorialising on our part, and that's something we try to avoid.

    Hello can change the content model, CSS to Sanitized CSS? †TyphoonAmpil† (💬 - 📝 - 🌀 - Tools) 05:20, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TyphoonAmpil: It can only be changed by interface administrators. You can use {{Edit interface-protected}} on the talk page. If you create a .css page as a subpage in the template namespace then it automatically gets Sanitized CSS and keeps it if you move it to your userspace. Redirect

    [edit]

recently OCDD created a redirect Chirag Sen to India national badminton team. Is it a valid redirect? Because this individual is not even notable, and creating a redirect page for it seems unnecessary. zoglophie•talk• 11:32, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A redirect does no harm, and he may be notable. I'm not all that familiar with badminton, but he's ranked in the top 100 in the world in singles. Clarityfiend (talk) 13:14, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GeorgeMemulous they could be eligible, see WP:NFC#UUI and the infobox at Monty Python. You would probably get a better answer to this kind of question at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. TSventon (talk) 11:55, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Referencing isuue

    [edit]

    Hi,

This is Yahya.from.pakistan451. I am struggling with different articles and found a large amount of reliable sources but I cant place them effectively. They are openly available. For e.g. I am writing article Chapati Hindustani Gamer (Draft:Chapati Hindustani Gamer, as is a draft still) where i added a lot of references with about 5 to 6 external sources. However my article is rejected 4 times that not enough references to support the topic. At least after my last edit on that article, I think that rejection is unfair. I am not going to submit it again until i get a response. I am also going to write an article on Pakistani music band "AUR" but im worried that even after a lot of work, it may also get rejected. Please consider my problem.

    Thanks Yahya.from.pakistan451 (talk) 11:55, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yahya.from.pakistan451: The terminology Wikipedia uses here for not accepting your draft is declined; rejected would mean "stop editing as any further attempts would be a waste of time". You have been told to not use wikis as they do not demonstrate the subject's wikinotability due to being troves of user-generated content, and the subject's YouTube channel also would not demonstrate wikinotability due to its lack of independence from said subject. Not to mention the formatting is too much and goes against Wikipedia's manual of style, as well as the inappropriate addition of external links in the body of the draft. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 12:47, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yahya.from.pakistan451 You uploaded a photo of the Gamer to Commons, stating that it was your own work. Did you take that photo with your own camera? It is present on many webpages elsewhere, including this one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:26, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Yahya. As a rough guide: make sure that every one of the sources that you propose to use to establish notability meets all three parts of the criteria in WP:42. If they do not meet all three parts, then they are useless for notability (and hence for getting a draft accepted). ColinFine (talk) 15:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Correcting a serious error.

    [edit]

There is a clear set of errors on this page: Sada Yacco

I have posted on the Talk page for that entry as follows:

"The details of the first tour make no sense. It is stated that they arrived back in Japan on 1 Jan 1901 and yet the dates for appearances at Loie Fuller Theatre in Paris are "July 4, 1900, to June 16, 1901; June 16 to November 3, 1901" and the two appearances in Belgium noted in this section were in November 1901. There is clearly an error here, but not knowing the actual correct dates I'm unable to edit it. "

I'm not confident that anyone will pick up on this and correct the error. Can an administrator maybe take over and sort out the issue?

    Thanks, Simon Stagememories (talk) 14:13, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the dates don't make any sense. If you have an idea on how it would be corrected feel free to do so. Most of that article is sourced to a single book, which if anyone were in possession of it would make it trivial to correct. The page is not protected so anyone including you can edit it. Reconrabbit 14:43, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Stagememories I think that User:Ineffablebookkeeper is an active editor likely to have that source and be able to sort this out. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:55, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't actually a source I have, strangely enough, although I may know some people who do have it. I'll see if they can verify the dates. —Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) ({{ping}} me!) 15:19, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As the message in red says, for {{Cite Journal}} you need to add "|journal=" along with the name of the Journal. If they are not journals, you need to use a different template. RudolfRed (talk) 00:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried - but the word "Journal" is already there - I find this very hard. Sorry. Thanks regardless for your patience. 2001:4479:4F03:7700:6985:18B7:638D:D873 (talk) 01:24, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Journals have names. If you use Template: Cite journal, then you must provide the name of the journal, or you get an error message. If the publications are not journals, then use another template. Cullen328 (talk) 01:29, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of these references is for the sentence "[The article subject's] son, C. Lloyd Morgan, attended Clifton College, Bristol in the 1890s alongside R.N. Middleton." Why is the reader being told which school somebody's son went to? What's significant about having had this Middleton fellow alongside you when you went to school? ("R.N. Middleton" is linked to Middleton family, but to no particular place within the latter, perhaps because it doesn't mention him.) -- Hoary (talk) 06:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hoary, I think R.N. Middleton is (Richard) Noël Middleton (1878–1951), who is mentioned in Middleton family (I searched for Clifton in the article). TSventon (talk) 01:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps indeed so, TSventon. But I think my main objection stands. Depending on the meaning of "alongside", I would have had from a score to several hundred pupils "alongside" me when I was at a secondary school. I doubt that I even knew the names of more than a couple of dozen of them, and also doubt that I was influenced by, or that I influenced, more than half a dozen. If my father were the subject of an article here (he isn't), I wouldn't understand why anything about my schooling appeared in that article. (Yes, yes, of course there could be reasons: e.g. my father publicly espoused equal opportunities for all but covertly had me educated privately.) (Update: Orangemike deleted this from the article -- whereupon 175.38.37.197 reinserted much of it.) -- Hoary (talk) 03:47, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Refs 3 and 4 are all wrong - please fix if you can. Thank you, 175.38.37.197 (talk) 09:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have you not read the responses to your thread posted above, a few hours ago? Qcne (talk) 09:57, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Qcne: This is most likely Srbernadette, who is usually logged out while editing and asks at the help desk semi-frequently whenever they make the mistake of not adding |journal= when using {{cite journal}}, or when they accidentally add an extra 0 to the date and it throws an error as a result. This has been going on for years; searching for Lupton, Martineau (added 01:14, 27 September 2024 (UTC)) or Middleton in the help desk archives should give you an idea of how long this has been going on (added 01:14, 27 September 2024 (UTC)). —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:05, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The second support at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive993 § Srbernadette topic ban from HD and indefinite block proposal (2018) summarises our frequent customer here finely: nothing but good intentions but a completely baffling incapacity for learning even the simplest fixes for their constant errors.
I've helped fix their mistakes before, and probably will again, but it is a matter of public record that all attempts to educate this editor on basic template syntax have been proven by ordeal to be strictly ineffectual. Folly Mox (talk) 04:29, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Manual of Style for "notable people" lists

    [edit]

Can someone help me sus out if there is any established Manual of Style or guidelines for lists of "notable people" within articles? I'm specifically looking at Chinese people in Korea#Notable people. Would this fall under the scope of WP:APO/S, or does that standard strictly concern given name/surname list articles?

At present, the list looks a mess and is extremely hard to read.

If it falls under WP:APO/S I think it'll be fairly straightforward to strip out all the mess and bring it in line with that standard.

If it's not under WP:APO/S, my main questions would be:

    • Should entries on the list who do not have their own Wikipedia article be removed? I'd assume if they don't meet WP:NOTABILITY, they're not qualified for a "notable people" list...
    • What's going on with the "(Originally from)" parts? I haven't seen that in any other "notable people" list.
    • Specifically for the band members section, when one band has multiple members that would be included in the list, should they each have their own entry in the list? Right now everything listed per group, not per person.

Feel free to direct me elsewhere if there might be a better place for this discussion. RachelTensions (talk) 02:56, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem to fall under WP:APO/S, so feel free to make the changes. If another editor oppose to or revert your changes, then hold a discussion at the associated talk page. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 12:47, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the guidance you need is at MOS:LIST. The title section of APO/S shows it is about articles about surnames or given names or both. TSventon (talk) 13:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was reading MOS:LIST but I didn't see anything relating to standards for lists of people so I thought APO/S might be the closet thing we have. RachelTensions (talk) 13:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you looking for WP:LISTCRITERIA? It is linked from MOS:LIST. TSventon (talk) 13:16, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Usually you can go to the wikiproject that is relevant to the topic of the templates or modules. There is also WP:WPT, but from its talk page it doesn't seem to be very active. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 12:52, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you comment on an RfC you started?

    [edit]

So, RfCs have to neutrally worded, unlike RM, AfD, etc. But, after you've posed the neutrally worded question, can you reply to your question with a response? Making it obvious that this is a response to the question (just by putting it in the normal format, i.e. "Support X because Y" on an indented line) </MarkiPoli> <talk /><cont /> 07:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MarkiPoli Absolutely. Like you say, the question needs to be neutral, but in the discussion itself, you can have opinions. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:40, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    How to criticize a Wikiproject?

    [edit]

I've been annoyed by the WikiProject for where I live: Kuwait. Why? Because no efforts were made to fix tons of misinformation, stub articles and outdated information about Kuwait. Other than vandalising, how do I criticize the Wikiproject mentioned? FSlolhehe (talk) 14:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that you be bold and either join the project and / or fix the articles yourself. Let other editors know where help is needed the most, but don't make any personal attacks, and remember, there is no deadline for you or anybody else to edit Wikipedia. Also, it'd probably be wise if you didn't suggest your intentions to vandalize Wikipedia if nobody else fixes the articles. GeorgeMemulous (talk) 14:21, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@FSlolhehe: Editors are volunteers. They are judged by what they do, not what they haven't done. WikiProject Kuwait is just a few volunteers who have added their name to the member list. It doesn't make them responsible for the state of articles about Kuwait, and anyone can edit those articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:30, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict), WP:KW is tagged as semi-active, it may actually be inactive. As suggested at WP:INACTIVEWP you could post on its talk page asking if anyone minds marking it as inactive. If there are no objections, you could then add inactive to the {{WikiProject status}} template at the top of the WikiProject page. Generally on WP, people edit articles they are interested in, so if nobody is interested, poor quality articles do not get improved. TSventon (talk) 14:28, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to grab whether a user is using dark mode or not?

    [edit]

For the purposes of a template. Just curious. Thanks in advance! Cessaune [talk] 14:16, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cessaune, I feel like I read somewhere that no there's no way to see another editor's preferences, but I can't remember where I read it, when, or what the context would have been. A naive search of VPT's archives came up useless.
It does seem to me that if this were possible, we probably would have had pallette switching templates for two and a half years already – when the community Dark mode gadget was first deployed – and not be all amess about fixing background colours now that an official extension is available. Folly Mox (talk) 22:27, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Yikes. There's not even a WMF-supported way to do this? Cessaune [talk] 02:03, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's clearly a way for the software to retrieve a user's preferences, since they usually work, and are displayed in Special:Preferences when logged in (specifically, this seems to be :mw:ResourceLoader/Core modules § user.options).
But very few of these are open to read access by other users. Gender is one, which is accessed by user templates such as {{their}} via the magic word {{GENDER}}. Whether or not you're accessing the website via the mobile frontend isn't really a preference per se, but {{if mobile}} works via <span> tags with class=mobile or class=nomobile attributes that the software interprets, rather than surfacing the user's browser type directly.
I see people asking each other which skin they're using all the time on VPT, and I'm aware that there's no way to check whether a user has enabled Special:Homepage, per this recent thread. It seems that preferences are mostly inaccessible except through specific developer-implemented endpoints.
That said, the 2022 community dark mode gadget functions by inverting the colour palette, and the class .mw-no-invert will prevent this to ensure intended colour contrast. The 2024 dark mode extension uses a separate pallette (see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 213 § Dark mode for logged-out users coming soon!).
mw:Recommendations for night mode compatibility on Wikimedia wikis might have a solution for your template's use case. Folly Mox (talk) 10:08, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I need someone to find me a source cus i cant find any

    [edit]

Im need someone to get a source about the civil parish abolishment of Eastcotts because im trying to update the cardington page because it still says the raf is in eastcotts 94.194.31.200 (talk) 17:34, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you might have better luck asking at the Talk page for the article that you're hoping to edit. At least, you'll have better odds of finding other editors who are specifically interested in that topic. Other editors might chime in here with different suggestions. Good luck! DonIago (talk) 17:51, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
94, if no one here has a source for you, you might try asking at WP:RD/H, which is more suited to requests for research assistance. Folly Mox (talk) 17:51, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Although, refs 2 and 3 at Eastcotts seem to support the 1 April 2019 date. Folly Mox (talk) 17:55, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Ok ill try that 94.194.31.200 (talk) 17:59, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Requesting repeal of blacklisted title

    [edit]

Cary Huang, co-creator of 2010's The Scale of the Universe, redirects to the latter on WP. However, the two brothers themselves--Cary and Michael Huang--do not; page creation is blocked by the title blacklist. About to file an appeal for redirect creation as soon as I'm told where to do so. (Via WP:BFDI--h/t WP:Deletion review/Perennial requests [h/t WP:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:K. Annamalai].) --Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 20:08, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can make a request at WP:ANB or WP:RFED. You might want to provide sources that show the brothers are notable together to get a better chance of getting approved. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 20:27, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Need help regarding editing info box of D9-Caffeine

    [edit]

Hey everyone. The d9-Caffeine article that I submitted through AFC was accepted about a month. Another editor created the infobox, As I didn't know how to. The issue is as follows

There are a few things I have spotted in the infobox, that are either not working or wrong. As a new editor I don't know how can I change them, I tried but errors keep popping up. Hence, the cry for help.

    1. The linked CAS Number leads to a webpage (https://commonchemistry.cas.org/detail?cas_rn=72238-85-8) which doesn't contain it. On the other hand, the webpage linked to PubChem (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/13001304) contains CAS number, So if that's something that should be changed.

    2. The formula in the infobox is also something to look into... the formula should contain "D", instead of "H", as its a deuterium based compound. I read at Chemspider (https://www.chemspider.com/Chemical-Structure.23935581.html) that the formula is C8HD9N4O2, it contain 1 Hydrogen and 9 deuterium.

    3. Subsequently, the molar mass would be 203.25g·mol−1, instead of 194.194 g·mol−1, as deuterium is heavier than the hydrogen. As a reference (https://crslaboratories.com/products/caffeine-d9) and (https://www.chemspider.com/Chemical-Structure.23935581.html)

I did mention the above issues on the Talk:D9-Caffeine a while ago, however, I haven't got any reply. If someone could change them, and teach me how to do it for the future, I will be very grateful. Thank you! Look2cool (talk) 23:06, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have left the CAS number as is (I assume a page may be created in the future?), and manually entered the formula and molar mass, as it was done on Heavy water
    BloubDeFontenilles (talk) 09:33, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not experienced with the CAS registry but it appears that the "CAS Common Chemistry" website only contains a fraction of the substances actually registered (0.5 of 165 million). The CAS number is probably correct, I don't know if it's useful to leave it in the infobox though BloubDeFontenilles (talk) 12:42, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Google search CAS "72238-85-8" finds many sources which say it's the CAS number. I haven't found a source which is actually from CAS so I don't know whether it's correct. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:51, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Look2cool Yes, 72238-85-9 is the correct CAS number. As others have said, the Common Chemistry database only a selection of CAS numbers. I'm a member of WP:CHEM (the Wikipedia chemistry Project) and will answer any other questions you have on the Talk Page of the article. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Unpublished page

    [edit]

Dear Wikipedia editor, I am Txitxa Leo a local musician in central Mozambqiue. Wikipedia is undoubtebly one of the most visited platfoms on earth, therefore, I would like to publish my article which contains my biography in order to make my brand widely known. I am looking to seeing your reaction in order to be satisfied with you appreciable work. TXITXA LEO (talk) 08:16, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That purpose is exactly the wrong reason to write an article. Using Wikipedia for promotional purposes is not permitted. Furthermore, while not forbidden, writing about yourself is highly discouraged, please read the autobiography policy. Wikipedia is not a place for people to tell the world about themselves, but a place to summarize what independent reliable sources choose on their own to say about a topic, showing how it is notable as Wikipedia uses the word, such as a notable musician. I suggest you go on about your life and career as if Wikipedia did not exist; if you truly merit a Wikipedia article, someone will eventually write about you.
Be advised that there are good reasons to not want an article about yourself. 331dot (talk) 08:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback. Best Regards TXITXA LEO (talk) 09:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Wrapping in table columns

    [edit]

Can anyone identify why the "Release date" column in the table of episodes on The Adam Buxton Podcast is wrapping, even though "nowrap" is set in the table? I'm not good at this kind of editing. Thanks. Popcornfud (talk) 12:00, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Popcornfud: Because the table, for some reason, has a fixed width of 35em set on its style attribute. Bazza 7 (talk) 12:08, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I don't know what that was achieving. I've removed it. Thanks a lot! Popcornfud (talk) 12:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Previous accounts

    [edit]

I edited Wikipedia previously under the username User:Otolemur crassicaudatus and User:NGC 2736. I don't use those accounts now. Can I get rollback rights? Under my current account, I have made only 200+ edits. CometVolcano (talk) 16:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CometVolcano: - suggest you ask at WP:AN. I vaguely recognise the first user name from many years ago, but not the second. Anyway, AN is the correct venue. Mjroots (talk) 16:37, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can't find an article that should be obvious

    [edit]

We have the article List of Republicans who oppose the Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign. I added a couple entries to it a few minutes ago. I count in that lengthy list of anti-Trump Republicans, 87 notable Republicans who endorsed Kamala Harris.

Looking around for the obvious corollary article List of Democrats who oppose the Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign and couldn't find it, trying variations of the title.

And yet, if I search the page for the word "democrat" in the article List of Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign endorsements it turns up 56 hits, about half of them in the article and half in the references.

So they do exist. Although the list is smaller, it seems even 20 or so notable Democrats supporting Donald Trump is worth a standalone list, ironically maybe even more notable for its small size compared to the list of Republicans who endorse Harris.

It should exist somewhere, but I am not finding it, and I am hesitant to start such a list article without knowing for sure whether I'm duplicating an effort. ~Anachronist (talk) 17:02, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Such a list would be in the "See also" of List of Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign endorsements, so you can be pretty sure it has not yet been written. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:17, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Opposing the campaign of your party's nominee is different than endorsing the opponent's campaign. 331dot (talk) 17:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but that "See also" has List of Democrats who opposed the Joe Biden 2024 presidential campaign, for example. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:24, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
